While navigating my child diagnosis journey, I was overwhelmed, not knowing how to find the right person. I spent hours searching for assessors only to find generic lists with no way to know who actually got it. So I built this directory myself. Every assessor here has been vetted by someone who has sat where you're sitting. This is the resource I wish had existed when I needed it. Whether you're a parent trying to find the right person for your child, or an adult finally ready to seek your own answers, I hope this makes the path a little clearer.

FAQ

Common questions

Everything you need to know about finding an assessor and listing your practice.

Start by filtering by your state and the age group that applies — children, teenagers, or adults. Look for assessors who list "Neurodiversity-Affirming Practice" as a specialty, which means they approach assessment with respect and curiosity rather than focusing on deficits. Premium listings include a section on the assessor's specific approach, which can help you find someone whose values align with yours.

An autism assessment evaluates whether someone meets the diagnostic criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder, typically through structured interviews, questionnaires, and observation. An ADHD assessment focuses on attention, executive function, and impulsivity patterns. Many people are assessed for both at the same time — this is called a combined assessment. When filtering, you can select one or both service types to find assessors who offer what you need.

Costs vary widely depending on the assessor, state, and complexity of the assessment. Comprehensive assessments typically range from $1,500 to $3,500. Some costs may be partially offset through Medicare if you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. A small number of public services offer subsidised assessments, though waitlists are long. Each assessor's contact details are listed so you can enquire directly about their fees.

Assessors marked with a telehealth badge offer some or all of their assessment process via video call. This significantly improves access for people in regional and remote areas. Some components — like certain cognitive tests — may still require an in-person component. We recommend contacting the assessor directly to understand exactly what their telehealth process involves.

No — this directory is for everyone. You can filter by age group to find assessors who work with children, teenagers, adults, or all ages. Many adults are only discovering their autism or ADHD diagnosis later in life, and we specifically include assessors experienced in late-diagnosed adults.

Visit the "For Providers" page and choose between a free basic listing or a premium featured listing. Free listings include your core details and appear in relevant searches. Premium listings include priority placement, a featured badge, and space to describe your neuro-affirming approach. All listings are manually reviewed before being published.

Free listings include your name, credentials, location, services, and contact details. Premium listings ($50/monthar) include all of that plus priority placement in search results, a "Featured" badge, and a dedicated section to describe your neuro-affirming practice philosophy — which many families specifically look for when choosing an assessor.

We aim to review all submissions within 3–5 business days. We manually verify that submitted credentials are consistent with AHPRA registration before approving listings. You'll receive an email once your listing is live.

This directory is built and maintained by a small independent team with personal connections to the AuDHD community. Our goal is to make the diagnosis journey less overwhelming for families across Australia.

We manually review each submission and cross-reference AHPRA registration numbers before approving a listing. However, this directory is not a substitute for your own due diligence. We encourage you to verify credentials directly with AHPRA at ahpra.gov.au and to ask assessors about their specific experience before booking.
